Things have picked up quick in the studio after a couple of days off… first on the list is a new site, blog, and printed portfolio… yes, as sad as it is SDP is parting ways with WordPress.

There are a handful of people that I have shot once or twice a year for the past 10 years. Some have grown from children to adults, and some like Robert have simply aged like a slowly fermenting brew. I took some time out of my schedule last night to stop by and shoot some images of him, as well as document his ongoing full-body tattoo he has been building for almost 9 years. Some of you may know Robert from bar-tripping around Raleigh’s downtown scene. But true friends know him as a great artist, one of the three founding fathers of “Drunken Russian-Artist’s Night” (Among many other ill fated photographer gatherings), and guitarist for the best genre-defining math-metal bands to come out of North Carolina, The Abernathy Complex.

The Abernathy Complex was one of the first bands to give me a shot at photographing them. Even back in the day with no lighting equipment, and an overbearing college professor filling my head with photo do’s and don’ts. Needless to say, I am very thankful for that day, as I made some of the nicest friends I have ever had.

To Robert, Mario, Johnny, David, and John… I hope the world finds you well, with beer in hand good sirs.

Just a shot for a local boutique here in Raleigh. Fun times on set…

I had the great fortune to shoot the worlds largest and oldest producer of denim in the world Cone Denim for London’s very own Monocle Magazine.

Based out of Greensboro, NC Cone Denim White Oak has produced denim for Levi Strauss & Company, as well as served to supply the US Military in World War I. They still run their legendary Draper X3 shuttle looms. These mid-century narrow looms are the only ones still producing selvage denim on the western hemisphere today.

Below are some of the images that didn’t make the cut into the magazine, but still are some of my favorites. Many thanks to Delores and Stahle’ for showing me around, and to Pat Richardson, Donald Jenkins, Jerome Arnold, Mildred Bolen, Mike Roberson, Debbie Lindsey, and Dawn Whitted for letting a strange bearded man with a camera photograph them!

I have always had a knack for finding these amazing abandoned houses. I always wondered what happened to the people living there, and in this case, when a house is pretty much in the same condition…

The ingredients in the cupboard, the clothes in the dressers, the children’s toys scattered in the play room, as if the family vanished into a thin vapor.

Where did they go?

Couple of snaps, just wanted to give you guys something, since I’ve not been around due to being behind and such…

First, I love the different weird people downtown to shoot… this man had no bike.

Lastly, here is a preview image from the editorial I shot for Monocle Magazine. As soon as the magazine comes out I will post the rest!

The cutest baby ever… but I may be quite biased.

Some shots of my son to send off to a baby modeling agency… who would of thought, babies that represent babies in the modeling industry.

Had a great opportunity to head down to Lizard Lick, NC and shoot the stars of TruTV’s Lizard Lick Towing!

Now I’m always hesitant to shoot stars, because I have had my bad run-in with egos and attitude problems and such… but you won’t meet a nicer bunch than the folks down at LLT.

Don’t think it’s just the Carolina upbringing either, Ron, Amy, Bobby, and the whole Lizard Lick crew will take time out of their busy schedules to take photos and talk with all the fans that come through town daily, (upwards of 2,000 a week)!

You can’t drive to Greensboro from Raleigh, and not stop by the Red Oak Brewery! Delicious brews to be had!

Finished up a shoot documenting the oldest Denim Mill in the world (right here in North Carolina) for Monocle Magazine’s Dec/Jan Issue.

Can’t wait to post pics when the issue comes out! I do want to thank Delores & Stahle’ for showing me around and helping during the shoot!

Been busting the preverbal butt this week, wrapping up edits, and bringing several interesting jobs to a close. Before I can post those (waiting for the magazines to go to print) here is a still from the upcoming music video we filmed for Justice.

Got to shoot for the amazing people over at the Penn Stater Magazine for their Nov/Dec Issue.

Beverly McIver is an amazing artist based out of the Triangle, and she has an honorary doctorate! She is also the focus of a new HBO Documentary called “Raising Renee” debuting this fall! We had a blast shooting her images!

So I have been kicking myself… I have been so busy shooting that PhotoBrew has suffered… I have a couple of episodes in the works, but each is still missing a bit of footage… where does one find the time!

Out on another shoot with a great musician, Wyatt… I am trying to find my style again after years of shooting what the client tells me to shoot… dirty money dictating the look.
