It was a great long weekend, time with the family and friends. I wasn’t in the mood much too shoot, let alone shoot standard americana and flags, but during our trip to the beach, we passed a house with tons of flamingos in the yard… and I couldn’t help myself!

Help Rebuild Raleigh

On April 16th, 2011 Raleigh, NC was hit by “the largest tornado outbreak in our state’s history.” A weather system spawning more than 25 tornados in NC alone.

22 people were killed and more than 130 injured by tornadoes and severe storms that struck 20 counties in North Carolina, 4 of them were children in a trailer park.

I was one of the fortunate not to be hit hard by the storms, and afterward, ventured out into the destruction to do what I know best. Photograph.

I met many people during my weeks of shooting, and actually befriended one of the victims. He had expressed an interest in being a photographer, and on top of that; enjoyed a drink or two (another profession I enjoy). With that, I hired him as my assistant!

It is very strange the way the world works.

This was also the first assignment that my #1 assistant helped out on… my son!

It’s very exciting to almost be finished with another short film. We have one more day of filming and then two days in post, and I couldn’t be happier to be working with such a great and talented crew!

“Epic Beer Brothers: Easter Bunny Blitz is a gateway into the lives of the Beer Brothers, contract killers with a hit list of outlandish and (sometimes) heavily armed individuals. Though the series was only meant to be short-lived, it’s underground popularity (mostly close friends) have now spawned their own YouTube Channel which will feature non-other-than… you guessed it, their very own Beer & Food Show! Expect Epic Beer Brothers to launch this Summer!

Here are a couple more stills from the editing process:

An image of my son and I, he just turned 3 months old… he is slowly grabbing things. I’m sure it won’t be long till he has his very own camera in hand.

So I have really been taking it slow, and not paying much attention to work the past couple of months because I have been spending much of the time with my wife and newborn son. I am comfortable on this site saying that I do feel my work has suffered… trying to find a balance between family and work, when you sell your self, is becoming more of an issue than I previously thought.

I have questioned even continuing on in this field because of the time and money it takes just to promote yourself. Questioning my lack of style or signature… I have always conceived, shot, and edited the photography for the client. I worry (here in my 12th year) that it was a mistake to shoot that way.

I suppose things will get better… and I hope so, I am tired of blaming this feeling on the economy, or the weather.

Really into trying to shoot my family recently, they have always been shy, and strayed away from my camera.

But the moments that they let their guard down, I really feel like it comes out amazing.
