Down at my studio on Monday, after a client meeting, I took a walk around and met Art, a really nice guy that works in a metal shop near my space… good stories, everyone has them.

One softbox with ambient fill… I am very tired of carrying strobes everywhere, so I may just stop.

While shooting Art I had a great idea for a new body of work, so subscribe to the blog or even just bookmark for the latest!

I have to say… this weekend I shot what might be the fastest shoot in my 14 years of shooting. Shoot during a hurricane? DAMN RIGHT!

Matt Papa has been continuously refining his music and instilling faith within thousands and thousands of people worldwide. Listen to his music and you can’t help but be touched on a spiritual level. So when the opportunity to photograph the gospel-rock phenom arose, you bet I jumped on it.

Upon arriving to the location I was told that instead of 1 hour to work with I literally had 30 minutes to setup and shoot. Mind you, I had told my assistant to stay at home because I thought I was not crunched for time. Don’t think I’m complaining, cause I’m not… It was a great experience and I would do it everyday if I had the chance.

When you get the rare opportunity to shoot someone as amazing as Matt Papa you suck it up, get it done, and enjoy the experience. The lighting wasn’t an easy setup either, 5-6 strobes with a 10ft white backdrop and miscellaneous grip work.

After setup and one test pop, Matt stepped in. Eight shots and 4 minutes later he stepped out, thanked me, and the stage whisked him away.

I like the second image, because it shows a very vulnerable side…

Did I mention I had an AlienBees 800 drop 12 feet, hit the ground with a sickening thud, and still fire! THANK YOU PAUL C. BUFF!

Did I also mention I was packed up in 6 minutes? Not to brag…

Looking forward to doing some video work with him, so subscribe to my Youtube for all video updates so you don’t miss out.

If you get a chance check out his music, inspiring: Matt Papa.

Portrait of a very nice chainsaw-ist named Spencer we met the other day while out filming Episode 3 of PhotoBrew. More proof you don’t need the sun, or expensive lighting to make a great portrait.

Finally got to finish up my hat poster I have been working on. Nothing better than babies and hats!

Special thanks to my son’s extensive hat collection.

I found myself free for a couple of hours while shooting client work in Savannah, so I went out, walking the river line. Glancing and taking, rarely leaving anything behind of myself. I came up to a display window of a man shucking hundreds of oysters, and immediately visions of Lewis Carroll danced through my head. It was amazing to me, all the while so far from home, that I felt the same sensation while sitting on my grandmothers front porch, (years and years ago) watching her the same. Her aged hands, cultivating, artistically shucking away bushels of these babbling oysters.

Oh, to feel that way again. When it was all so simple. So I shall read some Hemingway tonight…

“As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.”

After some major technical errors and 2 software crashes, Episode 2 of PhotoBrew is finally up and running! We are working out the kinks in hopes of building a better (more beer-filled) show!

It’s rough around the edges, but we are having fun, and working to figure out our delivery and what exactly we want to offer during the show, the format, if you will.

I love working with the kind of people that trust my vision. When someone comes to you and says, “I would like a headshot please…” and they completely trust your style and technique. The results are always much better for the client as well as the photographer.

Such is the case with actor James Skinner. We met through a casting call for one of the studios next films, said he needed new headshots that would stand out from the same ol’.

We had some fun in the studio and captured some really good emotions. These are my 2 favorite from the shoot.
